How do I adopt a hen?
Easy!!! Simply contact us with how many hens you are after and then all you have to do is come and pick them up! We are pretty flexible but prefer to have them collected after 4pm on any day as we have lives too!
Where are you located?
Mamaku (Rotorua)
How much do they cost?
Hens are $15 each.
Why do you charge $15?
Well, firstly we have to buy the hens initially ourselves, then they are wormed, treated for mites, rehabilitated for at least a week and of course we have to feed them in this time! Also as they are not on the property we live at we travel 40minutes daily to check on them – it adds up! We do not profit from doing this (quite a bit goes in out of our pockets!), we do it in an attempt to make a difference to the lives of these hens.
How old are they?
Well we cant be 100% certain but generally between 12 to 18 months of age – still plenty of laying life left!
How can I pay you and can I make a donation?
Bank transfer is preferred ( see above). And donations- YES!!! PLEASE DO! Be it money or food we are always grateful of your generosity!
Are you coming to ‘such and such a place’?
Unless there is an event I have shared on this website or our facebook page then the answer is generally no – the organisation it takes, plus the added stress on us, the hens and the added petrol expense makes it difficult – we prefer hens to be collected. But keep an eye out you might just get lucky!
My hen is sick – can you fix her?
Unfortunately not. Although becoming a vet was a childhood dream of mine it has never become a reality! So if you think your chick is sick it is probably best to take them to a real vet – products such as polyaid can assist in the mean time.
Can you take my rooster?
Again, unfortunately not. We have limited success with rehoming roosters so do not want to become overrun by them although I would love to! If you don’t have someone to on-sell a rooster to or if you live in town then simply do not continue breeding! (Of course I understand accidents can happen!)
