Rescuing, Rehabbing and Rehoming

Here at free as a bird battery hen and poultry rescue we are about the health and welfare of these lovely girls. We only rehome to the best of homes and expect that if you are adopting these girls you to are about their care and well being.

We have several large groups of rescue girls available. These girls were only hours away from their end. They were all very grateful to be out of their cages and feeling the ground under their feet.

These girl now get to go through their rehabilitation with us. They have all been health checked, nails clipped, beaks reshaped where needed, wormed and parasite treated. They now get to share their space with ex battery girls “El Gato”, “Precious” & “Peckin” who will assist them in their rehab.

We are a non profit organisation that has the backing of a number of different agencies like the SPCA, our local Farmlands, PGG, Washbar, our local council, our local vets, other rescues and much more. We have rehabilitated and rehomed over 12000 chickens and ducks since we started in October 2014.

These girls are machines. The first day we got this new lot of girls we got 49 eggs from 100 girls. They will possibly go off the lay for a few weeks to grow back needed feathers but should come back again in full laying again soon. They are between a year and 16months of age so will have years left in them.
